Link Exchange

A link exchange, like an Internet URL (address) shortener, allows long and complex internet addresses to be reduced to something simpler and easier to remember. More importantly, it can act as an intermediary between published and referenced content. Where an eBook, for example, frequently references (and links) particular information assets, the Link Exchange model has the short (generated) link placed in the eBook. Later, if the referenced information resource changes location (or a better resource is found), the change is made in the Link Exchange and one is spared from finding and correcting multiple hyperlinks throughout the eBook.

The CMIO portfolio uses an AHS-provisioned link exchange ("Health Evidence Exchange", HEE).
